The Shape of the Night, 1939

The Shape of the Night is included in the recent rehang of the Surrealism room at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Modern Two, in Edinburgh.

Edwin and fellow Edinburgh artist Charles Pulsford currently share this room with the giants of international surrealism - Breton, Dali, Delvaux, Ernst, Giacometti, Magritte, Miro, Ray and Tanguy.

On one side of Edwin's painting is Oiseau by Salvador Dali and on the other side there's Le Miroir Magique by Rene Magritte. The painting in the cabinet underneath is another Dali, Le Signal de l'angoisse.
