Self Portrait, 1939
Occasionally someone contacts us about one of Edwin's paintings they bought years before and this self portrait is a great example. A collector in Minnesota bought it on eBay 15 or 20 years ago, just because he liked it. The initials in the signature are indistinct and he was unable to identify the artist until he made a new internet search early this year and found another of Edwin's self portraits on Wikipedia.
This one is signed and dated 1939, the year Edwin started renting a studio and painting works inspired by Surrealism. It has inspired the creation of a new online gallery devoted to Edwin's self portraits.
