Drawing of Mossy Mill, circa 1939

This drawing shows Mossy Mill on the Water of Leith, near Juniper Green. The river runs right-to-left across the foreground, turning to its right around the mill and receding away from us behind the trees. A sewage pipe crosses the river in the foreground. The pipe is still there today, but the mill was demolished for housing in 1999. Even more dramatically, a massive concrete viaduct carrying the City Bypass now sweeps across this site.

The drawing is undated, but it precedes a drawing dated August 1939 in a sketch book and probably dates from 1938 or 1939. Edwin made two oil paintings of a very similar view in 1947.
