Caley Station, Edinburgh (study), 1942

Edwin painted one of his best-known paintings, "Caley Station, Edinburgh", in 1942. He also painted this one, obviously a study for the larger, more highly-finished work. It's fascinating to see how the work evolved. He showed both works in his big solo exhibition in 1950, in the New Gallery, Shandwick Place. The Caley Station has now evolved into The Caledonian Hotel, situated right next to Shandwick Place.
