Edwin's Head of a Clown was selected by the Scottish National Gallery as one of the paintings to inspire competitors in their Art Competition for Schools 2016, alongside works by Paul Klee and James Watterson Herald.

The aim of this annual competition is to encourage school children to interact with, and be inspired by, artworks in the National Galleries of Scotland's collection. The winning entries for 2016 are currently on show, see Scottish National Gallery for details.

Head of a Clown is one of the paintings acquired by the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in 2013. It was painted in 1947, a number of years after Edwin stopped regarding himself as a Surrealist, but it's not difficult to detect the influence of his surrealist phase!
