Greek Ruffian, 1946
Shortly after the war Edwin painted a number of pictures that were inspired by Greek mythology. Greek Ruffian is one of them, painted in 1946. He exhibited it in his first solo exhibition at the New Gallery in Edinburgh, in April 1950. Its presentation is perhaps appropriately rough - unframed, the canvas being simply pinned to a stretcher that's painted black, and hung from a piece of string attached to the back of the stretcher.
