Railway at Hailes Halt, 1952

The view looking west from Hailes Halt station. We can see the roof of one of the houses, probably in Hailes Avenue where Edwin lived from 1947-1952. The railway line sweeps left towards the tunnel near Colinton.

This is one of Edwin's paintings exhibited in Colinton Library from 29 Nov to 2 Dec 2017, coinciding with some of the Pentlands Book Festival events there. The theme of the exhibition was the railway line and mills that were such a feature of the Water of Leith when Edwin painted them in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. The exhibition also coincided with the launch of The Tunnel, an ambitious project to create murals throughout the old railway tunnel at Colinton.
