Mossy Mill, Curriemuirend, 1947

This is the view down into the Water of Leith valley from Lanark Road at the east end of Juniper Green. The big chimney at Mossy Mill is very prominent and the distinctive building with 3 chimneys is Upper Spylaw Mill. The view has changed beyond recognition now - the City Bypass sweeps right through the middle and Mossy Mill is now a housing development.

This is one of Edwin's paintings exhibited in Colinton Library from 29 Nov to 2 Dec 2017, coinciding with some of the Pentlands Book Festival events there. The theme of the exhibition was the railway line and mills that were such a feature of the Water of Leith when Edwin painted them in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. The exhibition also coincided with the launch of The Tunnel, an ambitious project to create murals throughout the old railway tunnel at Colinton.
