Snuff Mill, Juniper Green, 1936

This is the Snuff Mill that was part of the East Mill complex, just upstream of Juniper Green. It closed as a mill in 1920 and was demolished after a period of use by Edinburgh Scouts. Edwin painted it in 1936.

This is one of Edwin's paintings exhibited in Colinton Library from 29 Nov to 2 Dec 2017, coinciding with some of the Pentlands Book Festival events there. The theme of the exhibition was the railway line and mills that were such a feature of the Water of Leith when Edwin painted them in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. The exhibition also coincided with the launch of The Tunnel, an ambitious project to create murals throughout the old railway tunnel at Colinton.
