Redhall Mill Dam, 1937

A major retrospective of Edwin's career was held at the City Art Centre, Edinburgh from 4 Aug 2018 till 10 Feb 2019. During the exhibition, Picture of the Month illustrated each phase of his career in turn, using some of the 60 works that were exhibited.

Edwin used watercolours almost exclusively prior to getting a studio in 1939, but he did experiment with oil paints a little in the previous couple of years. This is one of just three such paintings. It's a view of the weir and footbridge just upstream of Redhall Mill, in Colinton Dell.
