Moonlit Walk, Oct 1939
A Quiet Cup of Tea, 12/10/1939
From August-December 2019 the Pictures of the Month followed a pivotal period of Edwin's career 80 years after it happened. He moved into his first studio in August 1939 and immediately started creating works inspired by Surrealism.
In October he painted 2 oil paintings including Moonlit Walk. It combines the local landscape, recognisably the Pentland Hills, with surreal imagery such as the shepherd with wonky legs, his dog and the ghostly cows. Then there's the weird green worm-like object in the foreground!
He also created 4 watercolours and 2 of his Surrealist drawings in October. Here we see A Quiet Cup of Tea which is dated 12/10/1939.
