Still Life, Grecian Urn, 1949
During 2020, Pictures of the Month marked the 70th anniversary of Edwin's first solo exhibition by featuring 12 of the paintings he exhibited in April 1950.
Still Life, Grecian Urn is described as follows in Helen Scott's book Edwin G. Lucas: An Individual Eye:
"During the 1940s Lucas completed several artworks based on themes from classical antiquity and mythology. Here, he has combined this interest with the discipline of still-life painting. As with most of his still-life compositions, this arrangement has a strong Cubist influence."
