Kinleith Mill Dam, 1932

This is a good example of the watercolours Edwin painted early in his career. The subject is the dam at Kinleith Mill on the Water of Leith. This is very close to Juniper Green, where Edwin lived from childhood in 1918 until the 1940s.

Kinleith Mill has now been demolished and redeveloped as housing, but the dam is still present. Here's a photo of the scene today. Obviously the trees in the foreground wouldn't have been there when Edwin painted this in 1932.
