Redhall Mill, 1947
This is one of a series of pictures of Redhall Mill that Edwin painted, all very different from each other. There were many mills on the Water of Leith when Edwin lived in the area during the 1920s-1950s and Edwin often gained inspiration from them. Most of these mills have now been demolished, but the buildings of Redhall Mill are still standing at the bottom of Katesmill Road.
It's now been converted to housing and below we can see a photo taken from almost the same spot as Edwin's painting (the cottages in the middle distance have been extended to the right). It's changed quite a bit since Edwin's painting in 1947. Dense vegetation makes it quite difficult to get to that spot now - definitely off the beaten track!
