Marine Doodle (Aquarium), 1947

During 2020, Pictures of the Month marked the 70th anniversary of Edwin's first solo exhibition by featuring 12 of the paintings he exhibited in April 1950.

Marine Doodle (Aquarium) is described as follows in Helen Scott's book Edwin G. Lucas: An Individual Eye:

"Marine Doodle offers an unexpected, and rather magical, glimpse of aquatic life underwater. A colourful array of fish and crustaceans are shown swarming together among seaweed and rocks. Lucas displayed this work in his 1950 solo exhibition under the title Aquarium."
