​​This watercolour sketch, entitled "Edinburgh City" and dated 1946, is clearly a study for the large oil painting "City Panorama" (shown below), painted in the same year.

PREVIOUS
Both works contain many recognisable features of Edwin's native city. It's tempting to think the way the picture is split in two refers to the divide between the medieval Old Town of Edinburgh and the Georgian New Town, although elements of Old and New towns are present on both sides of the divide.
